Friday
night in Hammond IN, I witnessed a great competition, put together by a
guy who has never put a contest together, in a club that wasn't a
steppers club, and I sweated (I hate that part). The "Illinois vs.
Indiana" contest
was for the most part, a well put together and well run contest.
The place filled up with steppers from top to bottom fairly early, and
once DJ Eric ET Taylor started to play, the dance floor saw action.
The contest started somewhere between 10 and 11 and just about everyone
who competed performed at a high level (Just like the temperature in the
room). The contest winners were, Westside Mike & Alexis in first place,
Swan & Sunshine in second Place, and third place went to Carlos and
Sharida. I promised to write a complete story later...
Here it is... I'm
still recovering from the case of heat exhaustion I got from my night at
Orbies. Hey! You grab a video camera and follow every single couple
around the floor for an hour and a half, and while you're at it, do it
backward making sure you keep enough space between yourself and the
competitors, trying to keep focus and some semblance of framing and
aspect ratio in too small of a space! Did I tell you the temperature in
the room was over 100 degrees? It truly is D'Elegance East. If Thursday
night brought the former 3-G's the best night they've had in a long
time, Friday night meant the best night Orbies had their best night of
stepping ever. Virtually every heavy hitter who was in town was at
Orbies for this contest. Kudos go to first time contest promoter Jimmy
Jam for pulling this event off... Despite the lack of experience (did I
mention the stifling heat which caused quite a few people to leave?)
People wanted to be there to watch him pull this off and they got a
quality contest with no drama or controversy. The contest was so
successful, the owner said the next big steppers contest at Orbies will
be a $5,000.00 contest. The club has plans for more contest's in the
location on a regular basis (both old skool and new skool contests) and
they promised to get the air conditioning fixed too!
I'm just waiting for the correct spelling of one name and the D'Elegance
DVD will be done so You can

noticed we've added some new features. Some are for security purposes
like the captcha coding. Other changes are to make the

Form a bit more uniform and hopefully a bit easier to use. An
important addition is a three choice question where you choose... If you
sell advance tickets, can they be ordered on line? The choices are a
simple yes, no or Contact me about customers ordering tickets directly
from SteppersUSA. This FREE service by SteppersUSA
can help you increase
your advance ticket sales all from one place. Think about it. Thousands
come to this site every day looking at events and making plans. It's
convenient for the customer and you make money! Don't have a FREE Pay
Pal business account? Not a problem!
Just click Here! Even if you already have a website it only makes
sense to add a Pay Pal Button to SteppersUSA to increase the possibility
of a sale. Customers can use any credit card including Visa, Master

This is an open message to ALL steppers. Please share it with as many people as possible.
As many of you may already know I started a new web
site for the benefit of the greater steppers community. It's called
The History of Stepping Project. I wish to encourage you to add your
knowledge to the timeline. If you know anything about stepping, please
share this with the public on this site. We are looking for all
information related to stepping from it's beginnings to the present. The
information literally includes everything from clubs and bars which held
steppers sets and parties to contests and the participants and results,
to when different steppers organizations and classes started, who the
instructors were and are; Musical bands, and artists, DJ's, radio and
television personalities, Movies, videos, and photos… literally
everything stepping.
Creating an accurate historic timeline will go a long
way toward helping the community take the next step in its logical
progression as it continues to grow nationwide and will become a
valuable resource for all in the future.
Your input, your knowledge and your effort have made the dance what it
is today. Don't you feel your place (and your organization's) in the
timeline is well deserved? I do!

The effort requires more than just posting the information. The need for fact checkers, people willing to do some research exists in this important ongoing project. Just a few minutes a week can make a difference.
